I don’t think this actually changed the world.

  2. peggy Says:

    I agree with Alfie.

    I also agree with.

    Whooptiedoo.

  5. heather Says:

Ditto. It looks pretty cool, though.

  6. Ariel Says:

Perhaps we could say this is a photo of a changed world. :)

  7. tyrone Says:

For me, it’s really rare to see something like this.
    nice photo anyway.

  8. Robbie Says:

This was a fantastic photo that stirred the conscience of America. Following this photo, anti-Winter clubs sprang up throughout the country. Legislators began to hold hearings in an attempt to find just who was responsible for this tragedy. And, eventually, the landmark Winter Prohibition Acts were passed by Congress. Other countries soon followed America’s lead and passed their own similar legislation.

    Truly, a world-changing photo.

  9. rickybobby Says:

This is the photo that convinced us we had to stop the global cooling.

  10. Brian Says:

I disagree and say this photo has changed the world as much as the others. (in its own way) I see it as a way of showing the powers of mother nature and the fact that delicate humans have over come something that would be able to stop something so powerful. (If you have seen the falls up close, you will know what I am talking about.) Anyways, it’s a good juxtaposition of man and nature.

  11. EvilDildo Says:

    Global warming.. what a *****

  12. bobby Says:

brian, you’re kind of dumb, aren’t you? The rest of these photos made people thing differently about the we all live in. The other photos brought some sort of attention to a subject that needed it be noticed, and once exposed, let people change things. This particular photo, however, didn’t do ******* shit.

  13. Not Bobby Says:

    Bobby,
Calling someone dumb when you cannot capitalize or proof read you’re own post is kind of well, dumb, no? Also your lack of courtesy towards someone you do not know is well, dumb, no? The reality is that none of these photos changed the world. If they had there would not be the repeating themes of war and revolutionaries… Perhaps this selection of photos should be called ‘Photos that could inspire if anyone actually paid attention.’

THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN EVER AGAIN

  15. rock Says:

wow, crazy to think this will never happen again. It’d be sick to be able to snowboard down the niagra….

    lol@Tor

  18. memessy Says:

If you’ve ever seen Niagara… this is actually pretty ******* incredible. And if you’ve lived in Ontario and are accustomed to the winters there, already freaking cold, you can appreciate how frigid it must have been for this to happen.

  19. Hoang Pham Says:

Hollywood movie gurus are very creative. Just a fake picture. Looking at people at the Fall, are you going to be
so stupid to stand and chat out there? I don’t think that a real picture at all…

  20. Midk Says:

I think that there’s something missing to be a photo that changed the world: Woody Woodpecker going down on it inside a barrel

  21. Carys Says:

Hoang, if you heard that Niagara had frozen over, completely, and lived close enough to go visit, wouldn’t you? They didn’t have daily news then, so seeing it for yourself was your news.

I love how everyone claims every amazing feat or disaster is a hoax. Isn’t it possible for SOMETHINGS to be real?

  22. David Says:

I live in Ont and that must of been a frekin cold winter to freeze Niagara Falls like that. This should open people’s eyes to Global Warming (unpredictable weather)

Sad thing is, I almost think your being serious. It’s okay though I can explain away this problem. Old people are stupid. I mean, they aren’t now and all but then, you know when they were kids like some of us were, or still are. That’s when they were stupid enough to stand on the frozen falls.

  24. Joellyn Says:

I checked it out on snopes and they said that they were unable to determine the year of the photo but that Niagara Falls has been known to freeze- Amazing isn’t it?

  25. Mrs. Smith Says:

hey, guys, come on, this changed the world. it must be really ******* cold to freeze the niagara falls o.o it’s moving water, really hard to freeze this.

so, i think it’s pretty cool

and yes. it’s uttered by me.

  36. Tor Says:

i might ad that the pictures of him and his wife shortly after, not the word changed, but chocked europeans around, probably some in the states too.

i suggest the admin on this page look into the story, and possibly post

  37. Ansel Adams Says:

I believe the the photographer was attempting to create a future argument amongst people who would spend too much time disecting and interpreting things on a new invention called “internet”. He would want you all to contemplate the world just before you painted your fingernails black.

  38. justnice Says:

well, unlike anyone else responding to this post, i actually live in niagara falls. and let me tell you this picture is no fake. although the falls didn’t actually freeze over due to cold weather conditions, but rather due to the army corps of engineers cutting off the water supply to determine the effects of erosion and undercutting of the rock. not to mention installing some much needed ice-breakers. what you are actually seeing frozen is very shallow run-off water stemming from the low flow of the water. most of what you are seeing is the actual bedrock under the water. as for changing the world, think of it like this; put yourself in the shoes of people living in the era in which the photo was taken. the fact that human beings could tame a force as powerful as the mighty niagara falls was no small undertaking and a massive achievement. especially considering the fact that the falls themselves dump an amazing 750,000 us gallons a second over a 176 foot drop. you could say it was a world changing event. at least for the times.

  39. jerzy city boyz Says:

@justnice….no asked your opinion smart ***, think you know everything dont you.

  40. bobo Says:

Isn’t New Jersey a dump for NYC trash? You must work at the dump.

  41. Tendonut Says:

This is definitely not a fake picture. I live in Niagara Falls. The falls freezes over EVERY YEAR. It doesn’t usually freeze solid, but it has in the past. Actually, until the early 1900’s, each winter, there used to be a festival of types down in the gorge on the ice at the base of the American and the Horseshoe Falls. Now THAT is crazy. People were F%$@ing stupid back then. There are so many guard rails there now though, no one in their right mind would even attempt to go out there.

    @justnice
The water was turned off in the 60’s I believe. This picture was definitely from the late 1800’s/Early 1900’s. That is ice they are standing on, which just blows my mind.

  42. jerzy city boyz Says:

@bob, why yes, I do, how perspicacious of you! By the way, are you related to koko?

….reads as “or proof read you are own post”
