In 1957 he began taking pictures with an endoscope, an instrument that can see inside a body cavity, but when Lennart Nilsson presented the rewards of his work to LIFE’s editors several years later, they demanded that witnesses confirm that they were seeing what they thought they were seeing. Finally convinced, they published a cover story in 1965 that went on for 16 pages, and it created a sensation. Then, and over the intervening years, Nilsson’s painstakingly made pictures informed how humanity feels about . . . well, humanity. They also were appropriated for purposes that Nilsson never intended. Nearly as soon as the 1965 portfolio appeared in LIFE, images from it were enlarged by right-to-life activists and pasted to placards.

These pics were made outside of the womb and Nilson has since confessed to such.
Astounding as they were at the time as they are, unfortunately noy living fetus’ but kept in alcohol for research dead fetus’.

Lennart Nilsson made history with his beautiful pictures of the miracles of the creation of a new life. As a father to be his book has helped me and my wife to really understand what is going on.
And if you’re for or against abortion, please make your own decision in the case and let others do their own, don’t preach.

If the baby were carried outside the body there wouldn’t be an abortion issue. But since it is ‘out of sight, out of mind’ people don’t make the connection that the baby is real until it’s born. The same goes for smoking. If smoking turned, say, your noes black instead of your lungs, no one would smoke. Again: Out of sight, out of mind.

This photo isn’t about abortion. It is simply an excellent photo of fetal development. Women should have the right to choose abortion if it is the best option for them. Those who oppose abortions simply shouldn’t get them. Instead, those who oppose abortion fight for fetal rights, then when these unwanted children are born, they drop the newborns like hot potatoes. And the sickest thing of all is that those of us who can afford it will always, legal or not, be able to get abortions; the poor get punished.

1) This picture is a fake. The photographer admitted to it. It was not taken inside the womb. It is a dead fetus.
2) At this stage of development, the fetus is NOT viable and therefore is NOT a living being. It is nothing more than a parasite. If you think I am being crude, look up the definition of a parasite and compare it to a fetus’ survival.

Geez, people. These are beautiful pictures of the beginnings of human life, whether aborted or not. Speaking of abortion, I don’t believe that abortion is right. I would never get one myself, but think of the consequences if it’s made illegal. Abortions are still going to happen, but it will be in dirty rooms in back alleys with untrained people, a coat hanger, and alcohol as anesthesia . The life of the mother is just as important, and if she chooses to kill her baby, then I at least think it should be in a safe, clean, controlled environment in which the mother is in no danger.
And really people, use protection. It’s not that hard. This argument would really be unnecessary if people used their brains every once in a while instead of their reproductive organs. Condoms are not expensive or hard to find.
To Josh: You’re so concerned for the life of the baby, but then you have no regard for the life of the mother. Yes, she may be doing a terrible thing, but a life is a life, is it not? Doesn’t she deserve the chance to live the rest of her life also?
