Child Draws Home

The effects of the World Wart II have not only resulted to the death of millions, but also a long-standing disturbance on the lives of those who survived, particularly children. They were the ones who greatly suffered from the pain and trauma brought by the war. They not only witnessed killings of their families and friends; they also lost their future. They may have survived the war, but the pain will forever be there.

Among those who suffered this effect is Teresa, a young Polish girl who lost her family during the war. While in staying in a concentration camp, she drew an unrecognizable image on the blackboard, which was somewhat chaotic. When ask what her drawing was, she pertained to it as her “home”.

1. Gourry Says:

She wasn’t traumatized, she just didn’t have any drawing skills.

2. acowkickedme Says:

lulz

3. Tom Says:

Gourry: You must be a big A-HOLE

4. Bobby Says:

no! as you can clearly see, she wuz trying to draw a hand. she already drew a finger!

5. Novel Says:

It’s a good thing this website is about photography. Very few of you have any idea what proper grammar is. That sort of disregard is very unprofessional.

6. Cassie Says:

I think this is just a case of someone trying to make a story out of nothing. That girl has to be what, 6, 7? She was scribbling, it’s what children do. I highly doubt her thoughts were that profound.

7. deadtedw Says:

There’s a house down the street that looks just like that.
That little pollock was just ahead of her time.
Anybody know how to Google any of her other work?

8. Sarah Says:

First of all, 6-7 year olds know how to draw houses. Second of all, autism is not a disease that one can identify by the way someone’s face looks like down-syndrome and other disabilities. Third of all, I agree with what Tom said.

9. Jason Says:

This is just a clear cut case of people who sit around all day talking on “chans” and finding something about the holocaust and making fun of it. Its a shame that people have the need to insult and defame when they should be learning and understanding

10. 4chan Says:

look gais rules 1+2 lols i mean lulz

11. double r Says:

she’ll have to try harder than that if she wants to be on Tony Hart

12. lulz Says:

she failed

13. Crouton Says:

The internet’s worst all piled up on the comments right here. I hope something dramatically bad happen to all of you and you all end up on a pulitzer winner picture and future a-holes like you would put some random idiotic comments and make fun of you, like the way you are making fun of the girl in the picture right now. In fact, I would love the catastrophe to be much, much worse than what she has been through. I really wish.

14. Donna Says:

I cannot believe the total lack of understanding and human compassion show by some of these comments. I agree with Crouton and could not have said it better.

Some of us still speak English, and others might show some depth to their humanity by expressing themselves in “Whole” words.

15. Persian Says:

hehe….”world wart II”

16. Ryuu Says:

Oh my god, this girl lost her whole family and you people are laughing at her picture because you don’t understand it. Sickening. She didn’t have a home, she didn’t know of one. If this was taken at the end of the war then she lived her whole life just knowing that. This picture is really sad. Why doesn’t the human race learn from it’s mistakes?

17. Oscar Says:

Tom, Sarah, Jason, Crouton, Donna, Ryuu, thank you for your intelligent comments. The rest of you epitomise ignorance and stupidity. Just look into the child’s eyes, can’t you see the horror in her stare?

18. zarathustra Says:

hehe reading comments is FUN!
her face is very confused; the result of a traumatized psyche, i’m sure. It’d be interesting to hear what her reactions were many years later to this image.

19. sam Says:

First looking at the photo draws me into thinking what I would do as a father to protect my child from that, how I would feel as I failed. Being killed knowing that there was noone to protect her.
However, if we cannot laugh and make fun, what is there worth protecting? A life of solemn contemplation of suffering? I think all the comments are great.

20. Kiol Says:

So… that’s why little girls can’t smoke marihuana.

21. Lana Says:

Obviously she’s a student of modern art. Duh.

But the look in her eyes is very disturbing.

22. waddup Says:

this is why we invented etch-a-sketch

23. gege Says:

sure, a child drawing house and barbed wires, it’s so funny … u guys r so ironic and funny

24. Dünyayı degiştiren fotoğraflar! | Blog ve Bilgin Özdemir Says:

[...] Child Draws Home [...]

25. waddup Says:

humor is the only properly proportional emotional response to ones confrontation with the extreme pathos and absurdity of the human condition. We suffer, we die, this is the human predicament! Its funny really that the most immediate response is empathetic participation in suffering rather than rebellion against and ridicule of the conditions prevailing in the world of illusion…gather your courage and dare to say…weenyweenywangdongdee

26. waddup Says:

Teresa’s face registers consternation as she attempts to accurately portray the features of her favorite teacher, Mr Squiggles…

27. BooBoo Says:

World wart II is definitely worse than world wart I. That’s when you know you’ve caught something from that shemale prostitute, it’s not just a random growth.

28. ignorantamerican Says:

Zarathustra, are you a poet on poetrywars? Whatever, I have been perusing these photos here for a couple of hours and there are definately a lot of people using their rights to free speech. For better or worse…..

29. koko Says:

koko have hous lik dat!! she make koko hous!!

30. Doris Says:

yes koko, its the house that mexcans built…

31. mg Says:

I just love the look on her little face.

32. Doris Says:

this child has a future in the art world…

33. ...And Justice For All Says:

Believe it or not, I can actually draw.

34. Anon Says:

lol World Wart II.

35. susie Says:

the one thing that doesn’t add up about this photo is that the description says she was in a concentration camp when she drew this, so i imagine that would be the same time this photo was taken, but look how she’s dressed. people in concentration camps didn’t wear fancy dresses and bows in their hair. so the closest explanation i can come up with to what they said it was is that she drew this photo AFTER getting out of the concentration camp. that’s all i can figure.

36. waddup Says:

children in concentration camps were allowed to dress up and draw pictures, this kept their moral up..it seemed important to keep them happy at the time…

37. h4run Says:

i think that susie is true!

38. lulzasaurus Says:

someone give that girl a ruler.

39. ...And Justice For All Says:

She used to live in a labyrinth or smth ?

40. yerp Says:

she like, “wtf u looking at”

41. T Says:

re: kiol,
Judging by your spelling I am guessing that there are similar pictures of you out there on the web…

42. Andy B Says:

I’ve got quite a dark sense of humor, But some of the comments hear are pretty awful.

If you look at the picture and read the description, then write a funny comment. You clearly haven’t understood.

43. jeri Says:

@Andy …understood what ?

44. jeri Says:

she lives in my grannies yarn basket….

45. oscar Says:

@ Andy B - I’m with you. Obviously these smart comments are from people who have little understanding of what happened in Europe in WWII, and their entire take on the world can be expressed by WTF, OMG, ROFL, LMAO, and similar excretions. I pity these poor fools.

46. ...And Justice For All Says:

OMFG !!!

47. jeri Says:

LOL!!

48. Reggie Says:

C’mon trolls, no-one has said”Photoshopped” or “first” yet.

49. ...And Justice For All Says:

Thats what happens when you try to draw a 3D object at a 2D board.

50. jeri Says:

@andjusticeforall..hahaha. thats some funny shit, good one!

51. ant Says:

lost in translation,as usual. Should read ‘wHO ME?’ (you talkin’ to me?)
The well-known phrase ‘on 9/11′ was in fact translated from the French;
‘en neuf onze’ and correctly transcribed reads ‘honour Fonz’ ,making a none-too-discreet reference to ‘Happy Days’ - the French assessment of the situation.
Next time they want the Germans kicking out they can phone the ******’ A-team oops A-rabs

52. Marta Says:

I am Polish. I know how it is to be a child who survived the world war II, cause my grandmother did. Fortunatly she or any member of our family wasn’t at concentration camp, but she knew some people who was. They became suiciders after few years, cause what Germans did to our country, can be cured, but what they did to our mentality, is incurable. I have no anger to Germans because of that war. I have an anger to Hitler, cause he was the reason of this war. His racism was the reason of this war.

53. Me Says:

Hey, Marta, did you drop out of school in the 5th grade? How can you afford a computer and an Internet connection? You must be American, because in any other country you’d have starved to death by now.

54. Jeri Says:

why doesnt someone help this poor art student?

55. waddup Says:

suddenly Teresa realized she shouldnt be in third term art class after all…..

56. Dave Says:

This girl’s life parallels that of my mother-in-law, who was a victim of the London Blitz. She suffered from Post Traumatic Stress all the rest of her life, beacame a suicidal substance abuser, and made her family’s life a living hell.

War, the gift that keeps on giving … misery!

57. Tor Says:

face it folks, im an idiot and attention *****

58. waddup Says:

often after the toils of the day I come here to look again at Teresa’s face…it never fails to put a little spring back into my step.

59. bailey Says:

I agree completely with sarah jason crouton and donna

60. Bubba Says:

that theres a cute little girl!

61. Cizzy Says:

OMG…I tried to feel bad..and Marta’s comment made me kinda say “aww crap nowi feel bad.” then i read on and laughed again…I hate u guys..Ive got a one way ticket to hell..but meh doesnt sex before marriage, drinkin and rock music do that to u anyway…cuz Im wwaaaayyy there…I think Theresa was in my class in school..her art was always better than mine…so jelous! :(

62. dave poo Says:

Rofl she looks like such a ******* dumbass aaaaahahahaha

love, dont go into ******* art thats all i can say, its not your strong point LOL

63. Ovisobscuris Says:

Things only have the meaning we ascribe to them. This goes for both the picture and whatever posts you find morally reprehensible. Who cares what other people post, so long as you know what the picture means to you? You don’t have to say how terrible the posts are. Everyone knows already. The internet is a wasteland of porn and corny jokes, and anything you say will be made fun of. Deal with it.

64. Harry I. Ball Says:

Someone once said, “It takes true understanding to be intentionally ignorant.”

I’m sure that applies to 99% of the “ignorant” posts here.

Besides, what good was the Holocaust if we can’t look back on it and laugh?

65. Amy Says:

Hey, “Me”.

How ignorant are you?
Why don’t you try visiting a foreign country like, say… Poland and try to speak the language they speak and see how well YOU DO.

Idiot.

66. Bas Says:

World Wart 2? Yuck.

67. KSong Says:

stumbleupon + 4chan + **** who think they want to be heard = stupid comments

68. Elmo Says:

If she was an artist, it would be seen as a work of art and sold for millions at some action

69. lolita Says:

oh my god i actually got tears in my eyes..

70. barbie Says:

wow, what a ugly house!

71. Sam Says:

it doesn’t matter if she drew it in or out of the ******* concentration camp!.

and you ******* damn BARBIE! go to hell! you sarcastic *****!

72. Shane Says:

I immediately thought “maybe she is drawing barbed wire?” Nothing abstract about it.

73. dottie Says:

I used to have a house like that but I sold it to some immigrants.

74. waddup Says:

what a priceles little expression, kudos to the photographer who captured that!

75. Lunatox Says:

Looks to me like she just soiled herself.

76. superdouche Says:

i wunder how hard it was to learn to tie a shoe

77. Martyn Says:

I wonder if she tied a noose and hung herself?

78. curiosity killed the cat! Says:

this is faked, it came out later that this was actually drawn by the french expressionist painter, Emil.

79. bill Says:

someone should hang you martyn, you byatch

80. Ela Says:

From what I heard - this picture was taken after liberation of the concentration camp she was in. She was put in a psychiatric facility, and this was when she was ASKED to draw her home.

Black boards in concentration camps…?

And by the way - humor is SO not the proper defense mechanism for this. It’s just cruel and numb to write what some of these people wrote… sad, really…

81. doomedtorepeatit Says:

Careful what you make fun of, people. You pampered, clueless little parasites have just elected the most unqualified person in history to lead this country in the most vulnerable time we’ve ever faced. I vote we bring back the draft; maybe some of you pathetic ******** can find out what it took to make this country.

82. Noah Says:

If I had the time I would like to see how many rude people there are compared to people who insult the rude people, I might also find how many people are neither, just do that to see a once-in-a-blue-moon type of thing. That would be interesting.

83. martyn Says:

martyn is a fagboy!

84. sean Says:

@Ovisobscuris (#63)

you are the only rationally thinking person to have posted a comment on this picture.

85. lol Says:

looks like she’s drawing the splooge marks i left all over her mom after i fuked her senseless all night. that look on the kids face is the same one her mom gave me when she saw how huge my **** was.

86. sheyda Says:

if inthe past there was “world war ll” today there is alot of attacments worst than word war and if there were some children today there are lots of children like her…..so what do we have to do?

87. Cassi Says:

I think that a lot of you are wrong and that her thoughts are as profound as they are made out to be. Many people don’t really realize how smart kids can be. They know whats going on and traumatic events really do impact them at any age.

88. The nice jolie girl Says:

I thought i left a comment on here earlier.Where is it?

89. Poopoo Says:

who is this little girl?

90. barbie Says:

this isnt a real little girl, anyone can see she is made of plastic, she is a cleverly made doll. you people will go for anything.

91. lol Says:

this girl lives in a haystack.

92. ZombieSlapper Says:

Most of you are idiots. Analysis of children’s drawings done during war time often exhibit the same chaos. Ask any child of peace to draw a home and you’ll have sub par artistry, but you’ll recognize a home and people.

93. yeah Says:

children are so dumb. why are they allowed to be seen? we should lock them up until they can quit being retarded. that guy in austria had the right idea

94. s. Says:

Someone PLEASE check the text under the photo and tell me this :
wtf is world warT II ??? :D

95. lol Says:

*sigh* world wart II was a situation that happened sometime between the year 1336 and 1338. scientist have theorized that it all started when the moon men launched an attack on the jews, thus provoking the kenyans to start mass murdering themselves(because they were nigers). meanwhile, bolivia started to shoot missiles at the sun but stopped when poopoo commanded them. that is world wart 2 in a nutshell, dumbasses!

96. poopoo Says:

I command the sun moon and stars.

97. Marlboro Man Says:

this little girl would do well to learn to smoke Marlboros…

98. Tiesta22 Says:

All you guys are ******* ********.

99. Michael Jackson Says:

My sort of kid. Psychotic and blonde. Where did I put my pixie win.. err juice..

100. Maxqc Says:

Wtf some of you guys are such idiots. If she was her house being blown up thats what she will draw. You can find out what is going on in a family just by looking at a kid’s drawings.

101. goober Says:

golly gee williekers! that little gal was in a tornader!

102. acaiberry Says:

Hey
How’s it going fellaz?
I have a question thats been on my mind for a long time.. What is acai berry?
I keep seeing commercials on tv and banners on the internet so im finally beginnging to get curious.
I guess its some fruit that is extremly healthy for you and your skin?
I wouldnt mind losing a couple pounds so i kinda want to buy acai berry .. so if any
of you know any good places that would be awesome!
I also saw it was featured on OPRAH so maybe there is some truth to this lol.

103. Christian Nation Says:

this little girl needs a good marlboro cigarrette so she can stop looking so puzzled!
